Anthropic has filed to list shares publicly in the United States, setting up one of the most closely watched AI flotations. Its filing reported $16.3bn in first-half revenue and an $80.7bn net loss, much of it linked to accounting adjustments.

The company behind Claude filed a registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The registration statement says it plans to list on Nasdaq under the proposed ticker ANT, although the number of shares and their price have not yet been set.

Anthropic reported revenue of $16.286bn in the six months to 30 June 2026, which the filing describes as a sharp increase from the same period a year earlier. It also reported a net loss of $80.748bn.

The filing says the net loss was heavily affected by non-cash accounting adjustments linked to convertible debt. Anthropic also reported an operating loss, meaning its ordinary business was loss-making during the reported period.

The prospectus warns investors that the company may never achieve or sustain profitability. It identifies major spending on computing infrastructure, model development and data-centre capacity as factors that could pressure future margins.

Anthropic also used the filing to describe potential dangers from advanced AI systems. It warned that systems could be misused by malicious actors, authoritarian governments or hackers, and said inadequate safeguards could create catastrophic or existential risks.

Those warnings are risk disclosures to investors, not predictions that a particular event will happen. They reflect the company’s assessment of possible threats as presented to prospective investors.

The IPO will test whether public investors are willing to value fast-growing AI companies despite enormous infrastructure costs and continuing losses. The final valuation will not be known until Anthropic sets the terms of the offering.
