Tens of thousands of properties remained without electricity on Monday after Storm Boelo followed Storm Austen across parts of Britain. Power companies said repair work was continuing as further strong winds complicated access.

The Energy Networks Association said operators had restored power to hundreds of thousands of customers but that significant outages remained. Reports varied during the day as repair teams reconnected properties and new faults were recorded.

National Grid Electricity Distribution said it had restored power to 180,739 properties on its network since the storms began. It said teams were working around the clock on remaining faults.

Storm Boelo caused disruption across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The reported impacts included flooding, road closures, travel disruption and damage to electricity infrastructure.

Two people were reported by police and broadcasters to have died in separate incidents involving falling trees during the stormy weather.

The Met Office issued further yellow wind warnings for parts of the UK. Network operators said strong winds could make access unsafe and delay repairs.

The latest outages followed Storm Austen, which had already left customers without power. Network operators said the short interval between the two systems made the response more difficult because crews were still dealing with earlier faults.

Customers without power should check their network operator’s official advice before using 105 and should keep away from damaged cables and infrastructure. The scale and location of remaining outages continued to change during Monday.
